Nearest beaches

Puerto Calero doesn’t have a beach but it is only about five minutes away from Puerto del Carmen, the biggest holiday resort of Lanzarote – there is a water taxi from the marina (5 euros per ride) or a bus service a few hundred metres up the road which costs 1.85 euros per ride. You’ll find three public beaches in Puerto del Carmen.

Playa Blanca: It’s also know as Playa Grande, for obvious reasons. Playa Grande is a big beach, about 1.2km long and on average 100m wide. Because it’s Puerto del Carmen’s main beach, it does fill up quickly during the high season, though. There are sun-beds for rent and facilities such as toilets and small kiosks that sell cold drinks and ice cream.

Playa Pocillos: Playa Pocillos, at 1.3km even longer than Playa Blanca, is located closer to the airport. The beach is know to get a bit windy which makes it popular with windsurfers.

Playa Chica: This beach is located in the old part of Puerto del Carmen. It’s a small beach, there are water banana rides and the restaurants of the old town are close-by.

Another option is a sailing trip on Ocean Voyager, the Catlanza catamaran which sails from Puerto Calero to Playas de Papagayo with its sheltered coves just west of the southern tip of Lanzarote.
