Shopping tips

Considering the size of the resort, the shopping facilities are impressive. It’s not exactly the cost-conscious shopper the shops cater for, however. There are a number of designer boutiques along the Paseo de la Moda (which means fashion walk), such as Armani Jeans, DKNY, Hugo Boss, La Perla and Polo Ralph Lauren. You can also shop for sailing gear at Helly Hansen. There was a sale on in many boutiques in March with a few bargains available. The normal prices didn’t look much lower to me than what you pay for designer gear in London, though.

As the Canary Islands are not part of the EU tax union, you can find a few bargains. Most notably, cigarettes and alcohol are really cheap. Depending on what brand you buy, you’ll pay between 5 and 20 euros for 200 cigarettes and one-litre bottles of spirits are available from 5 euros. Perfumes and consumer electronics are also cheap. You can’t buy digital cameras and the like in the marina, but there is a perfume shop in the older marina building. Don’t wait to stock up on goods until you get to the airport (unless it’s alcohol, you can’t take liquids through security) – the prices there are higher than in the shopping centres around the island.
Next to the supermarket, there’s a gift and souvenir shop which sells traditional pottery, jewellery and art.
